A Happy Birthday Banner

My friend, Dione's birthday was this weekend! Her and I were roommates right out of college and we would have the best of times learning how to cook together and staying up late watching Rock of Love marathons. We lived together for 3 years and during that time we would pass back and forth this Happy Birthday banner by hanging it up in the kitchen everytime it was one of each others' birthdays.

I designed this birthday card especially for her eternalizing that banner along with an apple pie with candles that are clearly intended for a 2 year-old and a 6 year-old. Happy Birthday D! x

Happy Halloween!

Happy Halloween! Matt and I carved this pumpkin a few weeks ago after a trip to the pumpkin patch! Unfortunately the little guy has already met his moldy pumpkin goo death and all that remains is this photographic evidence of his existence. At least we got to enjoy his roasted seed goodness before his demise. Yum! Enjoy your Halloween!

With the Halloween weekend about to be upon us, I thought it would be only fitting for this week's Roundup to feature skulls! As a former Hot Topic kid, I used to love incorporating skulls into my wardrobe {paired with my cargo pants and checkered prints! Ah, the 90s...}. I still have a fondness for the little guys, and will pick out a skull print from time to time when I'm feeling especially rockin' on any given day.

Halloween Movie Night

Do you have any big plans for the Halloween weekend?? Last weekend Matt and I dressed up for a party {well I dressed up, Matt's costume consisted of a plaid shirt and a pack of paper towels...instant Brawny man!} so this weekend we're planning on kicking back with a movie and munching on snacks and pumpkin spice lattes. Since we're both not fans of scary movies, I figure The Nightmare Before Christmas is a must for our celebrations, especially since Matt hasn't seen it before! Throw in some cute bear claw slippers, comfy PJs and blankets and we've got one ghoulish movie night!

Oversized knits

If there's one go-to staple in my wardrobe, it's oversized sweaters, usually of the cardigan variety, but I've been adding more pullovers to my collection as of late. They're quite charming to pop over skinny jeans or tights to create an easy fuss-free look for Fall.

Low Luv

These pieces from Erin Wasson's Low Luv line has me all kinds of oogily eyed! The jewelry is inspired by Nordic and Aztec designs and come in simple gold and silver plated finishes. The roughness of the arrowheads are divine, but I'm especially in awe of the Triple Bone Cuff...I love the idea of taking something that might be considered gruesome and prettying it up with shiny gold.

Friday Roundup: Knitty gritty

A few years ago, my roommate at the time and I decided we wanted to learn how to knit. We bought a couple of books along with these super cute wooden knitting needles and plopped down in our living room and started cross-hooking away! Of course within a matter of weeks, my roommate had already produced a lovely scarf which she then gifted to her mom while my needles lay wedged between two whole completed rows of what was going to be a potholder.

I guess I didn't really have the patience for it, which is why I'm even more appreciative of knitters and the beautiful, snuggly things they can create! Instantly makes you all warm inside, doesn't it?

Light up my Life

After featuring Jonathan Adler's Utopia Elephant lamp in last week's Pitter Patter, I just had to find some more cute sculptural lamp bases! I love that each one of these would be perfectly fine as their own little accent piece to a room, but they just happen to have a light bulb and shade plopped on top of them. {I actually own the leg lamp too! I didn't know when I bought it that it was from A Christmas Story... guess I missed out on that movie as a kid.}

Beyond the Sea

Living next to the Bay, I'm able to boat watch from my living room window. On any given day, a number of sailboats are dotted along the water catching the wind for what looks to be a smooth sailing experience. It would make for a lovely weekend excursion to sail across the waters and dock in the rural north like a crew of explorers.

Dirty Deeds for dirty men

If there's one "metrosexual" quality about Matt (besides his love of Project Runway) it's his gravitation toward handmade soaps and candles. Whenever we're at a shop with scented candles and soaps he'll make sure to inspect each ones' exotic scents, usually preferring any that are minty or musky.

These shaving kits by Dirty Deeds would make the perfect gift for him! Each kit comes with a wooden soap dish and shave brush with your choice of beer soaps (yum!) in Spring Harvest, Bay Rum or Lime. Everything is packaged handsomely together in an upcycled wooden cigar box.

Whether it be chunky or oversized, there's a charming quality in these clunky appearances. The Great Pumpkin

This weekend my friends and I are packing into the car and driving out to the Dell' Osso Farm pumpkin patch. I've never been before, but it pretty much looks like the mother of all pumpkin patches: cornmazes, zip lines, a haunted house, wild west show, petting zoo, face painting, and oh yeah, PUMPKINS. It'll be a fun kick off to the holiday season, and I'm looking forward to heading back home after for pumpkin carving and seed roasting in the kitchen.

When it rains it pours

It's impossible to drive into the city for work without having to fork over a large portion of your paycheck on a monthly basis, so most San Francisco commuters prefer public transportation as a means of getting to work. I usually enjoy my daily brisk stroll to the bus stop to hop on the TransBay Express, but when a rainy day rolls around like it did yesterday, I wish that every article of clothing that I have on were water proof. Would it look totally ridiculous to wear plastic pants over my slacks? 

Well, I like at least that Hunter, the brand known for their classic "Wellies" has collections of stylish rain boots, ballet flats and even handbags that can withstand the elements without looking silly.
